Credit Card Customers Charged Twice Because of Admin Error

Credit card customers face an anxious wait to find out if they have been charged twice for their chip and pin transactions.

The Bank of Scotland has now claimed that had resolved the computer error that had affected the system and anybody who had been charged twice would immediately have their charges reimbursed

Retail outlets are reporting that many customers didn’t actually believe that there was an admin fault and many people blamed the retailers and suspected they had been charged twice deliberately.

Speaking to the BBC, Fort William-based retailer Chris Parton said: "Some people have come to the shop very angry about it."

Another business owner said that the bank had told her that around 20,000 designated merchants might have been affected.

Responding to the news, a Bank of Scotland spokesman indicated that the problem had been relatively minor.

He commented: "Yes, we have had an issue where a small number of customers who have used these payment terminals have been double charged for their purchases."
