New Survey Reveals The Average UK Credit Card Debt Stands At £1,747

A new survey has claimed that the average Briton has £1,747 of credit card debt. The survey was conducted by LoveMoney.com and found that credit card debt is accrued by spending on clothes, shoes, gadgets and furnishings.

A quarter of those people surveyed went onto say that they used credit cards for every day items like paying for food and petrol.

The average Briton also owes £3,077 in loans for cars, weddings, holidays and house repairs, while a further £518 is owed on bank overdrafts .

A spokesperson for the website described the results of the survey as a "shame but not a surprise".

"It was way too easy to borrow in the boom and it'll be a long time before we've all nursed our finances back to good health," the spokesperson added.
The UK government has recently overhauled credit card law.

New changes to credit card law
are aimed at tackling the reducing the amount of consumer debt and irradiating irresponsible lending practices among lenders. There are no indications as of yet that the scheme has worked to reduce credit card debt.
